Meditating is ancient and is widely used as a way of developing the mind, allowing it to become calm and peaceful, if only for a moment.
Kriya Yoga is an ancient system of meditation brought to international awareness by Paramahansa Yogananda’s book Autobiography of a Yogi. It works directly with the source of energy and consists of a number of levels of pranayama, mantra and mudra based techniques, where energy (prana) is mentally directed to revolve around the chakras, to create a glowing body of bliss (ananda). A part of the practice is japa, or repitation of a mantra using a mala, and together with the subtle sound of the breath, it pulls us deeper into the stillness of being.
Matsyendra has over 30 years of personal experience with Kriya Yoga and this six week course is an introduction to some of the fundamental principles of the system. The guided relaxation Yoga Nidra will also be an integral part, as it prepares the body and mind for meditation.
