Behind all the outer noise of sounds lies silence. Behind all the inner noise of thoughts lies silence.
Antar Mouna is a Sanskrit term that means inner silence, and is a meditation technique where the underlying structure of the mind and thought processes are observed. The mind is persistently externalised in daily life, we experience only what is going on outside of us, and have little understanding of the events taking place in our internal environment. The practice of antar mouna turns this around, so that for at least a short period we can see the workings of our mind and understand them. Through awareness of the inner noise, the voice of silence is heard.
